Remembering Roxanna Floyd

Remembering Roxanna Floyd

roxanna-floydAs a writer, when we interview people there is a lot you can learn from them. It is not only through the questions that are asked, but how the questions are answered. I always feel humbled and inspired when I have the opportunity to interview people with a passion for their craft, a passion for life and inspire others to do the same.

It is approximately 4:50 p.m. and when I signed on to check my AOL e-mail I saw the article on Black Voices  . Roxanna Floyd, 49, has passed.  I am in shock. I recently interviewed her about two weeks ago for an article that is slated to be published this spring.

Known as the makeup artist to the stars, Floyd worked with Mary J. Blige, Whitney Huston, Lauren Hill, Angela Bassett, Iyanla Vanzant, Halle Berry, Queen Latifah and Ashanti. She also worked for publications such as Today’s Black Woman, Essence, InStyle and Redbook.  Starting her career by working at the cosmetic counter of a high-end department store, it was there where she was able to practice her art and hone her craft.

Remembered by many artists, friends and fans via Twitter and Face book, Floyd’s first celebrity client was Yoko Ono. From there she took the industry by storm and created unforgettable looks, inspired others and started a path for many to follow.

My prayers go out to all of her loved ones.
