About
Calming Corners is a blog that focuses on creating a calmer lifestyle. You will find articles about wellness, health, fashion, beauty inspiration and motivation. I started this blog in 2007 about a year after I decided to pursue my lifelong dream as a writer. It has come a long way and has a long way to go, but as most of us my blog is a work in progress. I enjoy writing posts and inspiring others. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing the posts.
My name is Yvelette Stines . I dreamed of being a writer as long as I can remember, growing up in a conservative household, a “safe” plan was the only plan. I was a bit of the wanderer of the family but I did try the safe route and the universe understood me more than I understood myself and granted me a wonderful favor.
In January 2006 my “safe” plan of going to law school was disrupted. The only thing I could do at this time was follow my dream and become a writer. Every time I though of myself as a writer, fear took over as writing was one of my most difficult subjects in school. Being dyslexic I remembered my papers packed with red edit marks from teachers. But at this point the only thing I could do was try I had nothing to loose and everything to gain. To hype myself up I started telling people that I would be published in a glossy magazine by the end of the year. Some laughed and reminded me that I lived in the mid-west with no contacts in the writing world. Where this was true I listened to my supportive friends and the followed the voice of my dreams. December 2006, my first magazine article was published in Atlanta Life.
Since then I have been published in Essence, Heart and Soul, Jones Magazine, Uptown, Hispanic Executive Quarterly, Green Build + Design, Green Business Quarterly, Ambassador Magazine, Rolling Out, sheknows.com, Detroit Fashion Pages and Black Health just to name a few. I am a living testimony that regardless of challenges and setbacks your dreams can come true.
As each of you go through the journey of life I hope that you can use my blog both as a community of calmness and a resource guide go help you stay calm, happy, beautiful, fashionable and healthy. I also hope that you are all following your dreams and the path that was specifically chosen for you.
Thank you for stopping by and reading. If you feel the urge to subscribe and/or leave comments, I truly appreciate your support.

Editors of Calming Corners,
Obviously your site is targeted more towards an almost holistic approach to day to day sanity and wellness. At SpaFinder we help people find spas from budget to luxury locations and treatments. For someone trying to save money going to a spa would be a questionable activity, no doubt, but a relaxing one nonetheless. However, we feel that our Deal Days promotion really is a huge way of saving while getting to experience a spa treatment in any corner of the country. From March 8-14 hundreds of spas nationwide will offer high end treatments like massages, facials, detox treatments, mani-pedi’s, and tons of other procedures all for a flat rate of $50. For someone looking to fit a monthly massage or manicure into their budget or want to try something new and never deemed the cost a responsible fit into their lifestyle this promotion may be the time. It will be a great way for people to relax and get pamper for a low cost. It would be great if you guys wrote about us if you think that our promotion fits with the type of contents readers enjoy on your site, let me know what you think. I’ll get you as much additional info about which spas are participating as I get it. Hope to hear from you soon!
Best,
Z
